CHALMERS HEATHCOTE VINEYARD, COLBINABBIN VICTORIA
In 2008 the Chalmers family purchased an 80 hectare property on the Mt Camel range near Colbinabbin in the GI region of Heathcote in Victoria.

The property had previously been used for cropping so it has been developed into a vineyard from scratch with careful rootstock selection to control vigour and ultra high density planting at 4545 vines per hectare.

The Heathcote Vineyard is an east facing sloped site ranging from 150 to 225 metres in elevation.

It is comprised of the famous Cambrian soil of the area which constitutes the perfect territory for growing many of the Chalmers Italian varieties.
Italian variety plantings established to date at the Heathcote vineyard include Vermentino, Fiano, Greco di Tufo, Moscato Giallo, Nero d'Avola, Lagrein, Lambrusco Maestri, Negroamaro, Aglianico and Sagrantino.  There is also a planting of Shiraz, the icon variety of the district, and six different clones of Malbec which were selected from the Mendoza region in Argentina.

The first vines were planted in September 2009 with the inaugural Chalmers Heathcote wines produced from the 2011 vintage.

The Chalmers family also produce the Montevecchio range of wines from this site (www.montevecchio.com.au).
